Flipside Games Interview
Posted by Luna Cruz on September 12th, 2008 in Features

We’ve featured casual game developers from all over the globe, and it’s about time we turned our eyes to Asia. Flipside is a small but busy studio in the Philippines; they’ve worked with established foreign studios on such titles as Hoyle Enchanted Puzzles. We cornered their CEO, Gabby Dizon, to share with us what game [...]

Glyph 2
Posted by Nick Kojima on August 4th, 2008 in Reviews

In making Glyph 2, veteran game developer Sandlot Games has gone back and redeveloped their sleeper hit, Glyph, packing it with more features than you can shake a magic wand at. The result is the transformation of Glyph from a simple little run of the mill match-3 collapse game with pretty graphics into a sort [...]

Heroes of Hellas
Posted by Nick Kojima on April 4th, 2008 in Reviews

Not all casual matching games need to reinvent the genre. Sometimes all you need is a simple game with a small file-size that keeps you amused for a few hours – and Heroes of Hellas is exactly that. The basic matching is a “drag your mouse over matching tokens” mechanic much like Luck Charm Deluxe [...]

Chicken Chase
Posted by Nick Kojima on December 26th, 2007 in Reviews

Since this came out so quickly on the heels of the great Grimms Hatchery from Aveyond, we tried for *minutes* to come up with a “which came first, the Hatchery or the Chicken Chase” joke, but decided to give it a rest. You can thank us for that later.

Travelogue 360: Paris
Posted by Nick Kojima on December 8th, 2007 in Reviews

Just when we thought the whole MCF thing was in danger of getting stale, here comes Travelogue 360 Paris. Yep – you are still finding candy canes and toasters in the upholstery, but now you are doing it in a foreign language – and that makes all of the difference.

You know, every time I talk to developers and reviewers about video games, I hear the same old story: “Innovation is dead in games.” These people haven’t been looking at the top indie casual games lately. Little gems like Fizzball, Wik, and Eets come out with shocking regularity. They get a lot of hype on [...]

Four Houses
Posted by Nick Kojima on November 15th, 2007 in Reviews

Beep Industries has put out another truly original and beautiful little game. We don’t know what they are doing in that company to remain so innovative, but we wish they’d do a lot more of it, because they’re making some really great little games.

Runes of Avalon
Posted by Nick Kojima on September 27th, 2007 in Reviews

Sometimes games come out of nowhere and bowl you over with their beauty, originality, and general coolness. And while this game has the beauty, originality, and coolness down, it certainly didn’t come out of nowhere for those of us involved in the indie game scene. We have been given weekly, nay, daily updates on the [...]

Merry Motors
Posted by Cameron Sorden on September 24th, 2007 in Reviews

I remember when glorified math calculation games passed for edutainment, and you were lucky if there was any game at all in your “educational games.” Well, educational entertainment has come a long way since those days, and if your regular favorite games are too complex for your children or you don’t want them spending lots [...]

BigFizz is the swanky little British company responsible for colorful and fun titles like Puzzle Word and Party Bowling. We took a break from playing their great games to learn a bit about the people behind them. In our first Developer Interview feature, Scott Newby (below) talks to us about making games in the UK, [...]
