Much like Luxor, Atlantis, or a dozen other similar titles, Tumble Bugs has the player clear a line of colored balls – in this case rolly-poly tumble bugs – by shooting similar balls at it and matching three of the same color. If you’ve played any of the genre, you’ll be up and running on this one within seconds, and even if you have never played one of these (and if so, what on earth have you been playing?), you’ll figure it out within a few mouse-clicks. And that’s likely the strength of the genre, that you can start playing the game almost by accident.
Granted, these kinds of games have been done to death, yet this one had some special charms. The bugs themselves are some of the cutest characters I have ever seen in a game, and the comic strips and jokes between levels lightened the tone even more. In all, it was a simple, relaxing and entertaining addition to the genre.
One of my only qualms was that the low difficulty level. In truth, you pretty much have to try to lose a level unless you have a very uncooperative mouse. That makes the game a bit monotonous after awhile, even though there are plenty of specials to keep you occupied. All in all, it’s a solid game, and a must-download for fans of the genre. Even if you aren’t a huge fan of the genre, it’s likely worth the download.
