I’m a big fan of fashion, so make it the topic of a click-management game and you had me at “hello clothes!” Dress Up Rush is in the same family of games as Jane’s Realty and Jane’s Hotel - this time, Jane uses her elegant fashion sense to start her own dress shop.

Now I’ve got to tell you, if you’ve played similar games like Fashion Dash, Dress Up Rush is not as good as those. What Dress Up Rush does have going for it is its attempt to introduce some new elements. The basic process is still there: give catalogue to customer, deliver the customer’s choice of clothes, customer goes to cashier. The fun is really in the little stuff. There are power-ups that speed up Jane’s walk or freeze over customers’ patience meters, but these aren’t purchased or “activated”; instead, they spawn on the ground and you just pick them up to use them. “Wild” items are presented as regular customers not knowing what they want, so you can suggest anything for them. I loved the periodic “sales”, the action minigames where you got rid of last season’s clothes by serving them as fast as you could. There’s even a robber that tries to sneak in once in a while, and you catch him by clicking on him.

The biggest yay! factor of this game is being able to upgrade BOTH your shop and your fashion catalogue. You can buy additional clothing types like hats, bags, and shoes, and purchase more fashionable items as the game progresses. You can also improve the look of your store through better wallpaper, lights, or seats. All these affect four meters: Range of Choice, Presentability, Price and Quality Ratio, and Quality of Service. Though the actual use of these meters is unclear, it’s fun to accessorize your shop and choose the clothes for you to sell. You can even hire a cashier and a cleaning lady.

Just like Jane’s Realty, there are some flaws in this game that make it not up to par with its competition. The tutorial is written in awkward English, and actually gets in the way of playing by forcing you to drop whatever you’re doing to follow it. Game actions are also inconsistent: cashiers do their work automatically but cleaning ladies and gift wrappers don’t; you can use some objects from afar (like clothes racks) but not others. You also can’t shave a few seconds by clicking to a place ahead of time; you can’t move Jane unless there’s a valid task to go to. We wish there was more polish here, the way other games have done this genre. Still, it’s a fun game, and very much worth playing. I did thoroughly enjoy the trial hour. Besides, who doesn’t like clothes shopping?
