Dairy Dash, as the name already suggests, is another spin-off of Diner Dash published by Playfirst. The story begins with the Smiths deciding to take up a relative’s old farm, and that’s where you come in. Your job is to click-manage their efforts to make the best they can out of it. Also, true to Playfirst, apart from their distinctive narrative sequences and character designs, you’ll get to see cameo appearances from Diner Dash’s Flo.

First (no pun intended), it has to be said that Dairy Dash is a sound, fine game. You’ll have to cater to your farm animals and plants as they go through cycles of various needs—sleeping, eating, drinking, and producing. If you’re familiar with the “needs” cycle of Diner Dash customers, you’ll recognize the game mechanic right away, and thats good because that means you already know how to play this game.

A nice feature is that you’ll get to manage the farm with several members of the family, rather than just by yourself. This adds a new depth to the task allocation and preparation, as this time someone else can always help out with another task if your hands are already full. Interestingly, because you’ve got so many helpers, the chain bonuses, which are earned by completing similar tasks in a row, now become very essential. So much so that from early in the game, failure to achieve these chain bonuses would mean the inability to reach your required goal scores. They aren’t just for “expert” players to attempt anymore, they’ve become part of your normal gameplay.

Now the thing is, after the recent releases of other brilliant farming game titles like Malesta’s Farm Frenzy and MumboJumbo’s Little Farm, we are inclined to actually expect quite a bit more from a company like Playfirst. Moreso because of their established click-management game history. Unfortunately, the visuals, animations, rewards and play might actually appear a little bland if you’ve just had an awesome time with these other titles. Dairy Dash is not a bad game, it really is quite a fine one, but the only thing is, with the recent standards of action management games (have you tried Airport Mania?) it’s a little difficult to say Dairy Dash deserves that “top-notch” rating.

Fantastiks said,

How many games with the word DASH in them is Playfirst going to make? It’s just getting silly!
