Had I not seen it with my own eyes, I would never have guessed that such cuteness as is found in the mysterious “chuzzle” was possible. They are but tiny colored balls of fur with eyes that quiver, squeak, sneeze, and have no purpose other than to poof into oblivion when their appointed time comes. It’s ridiculous. Ridiculously awesome.

The goal of chuzzle is a simple one at heart. You have a square grid full of chuzzles, and you can slide any row either horizontally or vertically as far as you like. Slide them in such a way that three same-color chuzzles line up together, and they poof with an adorable squeak and a bit of floating hair, forever absorbed into your magic potion of rainbow delight (no, really, believe me; this is too crazy to make up). The strategy comes when you have to navigate around monster sized chuzzles that are too big to move and locked chuzzles who can’t shift position. The first three game modes give you a random assortment and let you go until you fail, and puzzle mode gives you a pre-assembled box of chuzzles that you have to rotate into a different picture. Puzzle mode is pretty creative and feels like an almost different game, if you get sick of the main game.

It’s a very silly and fun game to play. The chuzzles’ little bobble eyes follow your cursor as you move it around them, and they’re constantly twitching and shaking and making cute noises. There’s enough gameplay to keep you busy for quite a while, and on top of that there’s a whole trophy room where you can earn chuzzle trophies for meeting certain requirements while playing (something that you’ll doubtlessly enjoy quite a bit once you’re hooked). I wish they would have been a little more creative in level design, giving some alternate shapes than a square grid, and you may eventually be overwhelmed by the cuteness (or embarrassed enough to hide the icon when your friends come over), but this is a game that everyone should at least try once, if just to see what chuzzle really is. Highly recommended.
