Pirates seem to be all the rage this season, what with everybody hopping on board the skull-and-crossbones ship. Developers Dayterium must have been inspired with the theme when coming up with Bird Pirates.

As the name suggests, the story tells of a blue jay that decided to take over a pirate’s ship, and with that unleashed a whole torrent of feathered friends along with it.

While there may not be anything entirely original here, shooting at an adorable animated bird is much more fun than firing at inanimate diamonds. In this game, your cannon blasts a bird out of its line and replaces it with one that is similar to the color of your cannon. This may seem easy enough, but bear in mind that the birds waddle along ropes that snake erratically around the level making your job really tough.

The game gets tougher as you progress; the rope formations get more convoluted and the different colors for the birds increase. This however is compensated with a very generous reward system. Plenty of treasure, coins and jewels will drop so it’s up to you to collect them as you’re flitting back and forth firing at the birds. A mini-game is slotted in at storyline intervals which helps you collect more lives.

The game’s graphics are vibrant, as expected. The birds are incredibly adorable! If you have a soft spot for cute animals, you’d be suckered into this game in no time. Most of the levels take place onboard a ship, but you’ll be so busy taking out birds you will hardly take notice of it. Too bad the developers didn’t go all the way and use pirate speak in their game. It would’ve been a big hoot to see the birds attempt that.

Bird Pirates is a fun enough game to pick up. It doesn’t really have a lot of outstanding flaws that mar its overall appeal, so it you are looking for some exciting action puzzles, do give Bird Pirates a try. Plus, it’s got up to 50 levels to keep you entertained for quite some time.
