Pros:
• You get to serve stuff
• Original match-3 mechanic
• Nice building improvement
Cons:
• You have to serve stuff
• Another service game? Really?
Admittedly, when we saw the logo and name of Cindy’s Sundaes, we were expecting Diner Dash with ice cream. To be clear, that’s not this game. Then, when we started playing, we were expecting another bland match-3. Again, that’s not it either. Instead, the game is deceptively original, and a good bit of fun, besides.
The core mechanic of Cindy’s Sundaes is a Chuzzle-like sliding match-3, but the sliding action is in diagonals, which is a little harder to predict. It’s a nice change, and gives the game an original feel. Then we add the traditional special objects – frozen ice cream that cannot be moved, objects that add bonus score, etc. Sure, it’s not rocket science design, but it is done well and has enough polish to make it worth playing.
What is original is the “make your own sundae” mechanic, which allows the player to design, name, and save various sundaes, which customers will then come in and ask for by name. You can even email them in postcards to friends, which is a fun trick to drive some viral marketing. Sure, I know I’m being used, but I like it. Now if I could only upload these to my Facebook account and give them to my friends as gifts!
All in all – it’s a solid, game with traditional gameplay done well with a few additional twists. Good enough for a fullprice purchase? You can be the judge of that. Good enough for a download – absolutely. Go give it a try.
