Special Holiday Feature!

Full Article

Cameron Sorden

Are you enjoying your city sidewalks dressed in holiday style? I hope not, because that means you’re shopping on Christmas day for last minute gifts! Shame on you. If you did go out and just couldn’t find anything, or if you just want a few games to keep the holiday spirit alive for a couple of more days, take a look at some of these cute holiday titles we dug up from around the internet. We have something from Christmas Past, a few games from Christmas Present, and you can use all of these titles to craft memories for Christmas Future! Also, if you haven’t even a half-penny, we included a cute and free title for your whole family to enjoy on Christmas morning (just burn it to CD and stick it under the tree).

Winter Tale by Ten Games
In this cute little matching game, you slide rows and columns of ornaments around to make groups of three or more and fill up your Christmas tree with shiny pretty things. If it sounds familiar, it’s because it’s yet another Chuzzle rip-off with a Christmas theme. Nonetheless, it’s cute (if a little unpolished) and if you’re not sick of this type of gameplay yet, go have a look. [Site]

Xmas Bonus by Grey Alien Games
Xmas Bonus makes no pretensions about what it is: a simple, fun, Christmas match three game. But it does it well. With nice, catchy music reminiscent of their title from this year, and solid gameplay of the kind you know and expect from these types of games, Grey Alien serves up a fun Christmas treat for shoppers on a budget (they’re selling at half price since, you know, it’s Christmas). Winter Break & Catch by Brave Kid Games
Don’t be turned off by the simplistic graphics. Winter Break & Catch is a surprisingly fun little brick breaker type game with a neat twist that had me playing long after I should have been writing this review. You knock presents out of the air with your ball, but you also have to catch them as they fall with your paddle. With a minimum number of presents to catch each round and snowballs to dodge, it gets pretty intense. And with a price tag of, oh, FREE (thanks, Brave Kid), there’s no reason not to get it. Did I mention you can make your own levels? Go play. [Site]

Believe in Santa by PlayFirst
I’m not quite sure why the game is called Believe in Santa, since you make all the toys, but it follows quite nicely in the footsteps of other “start-your-own-business” games. It’s a formula you know and love: customers come in and want things, you make them and get them to the customers using your expert store management skills. The Christmas twist is that you’re manufacturing toys instead of baked goods, otherwise you’ve seen it before. Still, it’s a very fun and very polished game that anyone can play for a little holiday fun. [Site]

Christmas Quest by Spinapse
A very original game from Spinapse, Christmas Quest hands you a camera and sends you on a magical Christmas scavenger hunt that takes you through both space and time to snap picture of Christmas related objects. It’s very much like the old Carmen Sandiego games, hopping from spot to spot around the globe in your search. It’s also educational, as each time you find a snapshot you have to answer a Christmas themed trivia question to earn money. Very cool! [Site]

Merry Christmas and happy holidays from all of us here at Casual Review! We hope you have a warm and fun time this holiday season. Enjoy your games, and check back soon for more end of the year goodies.
