It doesn’t mean the latest games are always the most fun, and we’ve got a nifty selection of three quality pieces to prove it. Here’s your chance to play your heart out on a few titles you might have missed:
BVS Solitaire by BVS Development Corporation

Including traditional favorites like Spider Solitaire, FreeCell, Pyramid, Klondike, Scorpion, Seahaven Towers, Accordion, Russian Solitaire, Carpet, Monte Carlo, Forty Thieves, Flower Garden, German Patience, Golf, Cruel.. and, well, something like 420 games total - 90 of which are original and not found elsewhere. That’s a new version of solitaire every day for three months. They can’t do any better than that. And if you’re still looking for something new, you can modify rules of any game, creating hundreds of possible solitaire game variations. The website lists a few dozen other features, suffice to say, whatever you could possibly hope for a solitaire game to do, this game does it, including online score tracking. So, go. Let the procrastination of whatever you are supposed to be doing begin.
Starship Tycoon by Positech
Want to create your own starship shipping empire? Well, Positech has that taken care of for you. “Starship Tycoon puts you in charge of an interplanetary shipping company, you compete against AI controlled firms to survive in the cutthroat world of space commerce. Configure and upgrade your starships, hire and fire the crew, smuggle illegal goods, and wage price wars against your competitors.” It is, in fact, as fun as it sounds. The game has a sandbox mode and a mission-based mode, either of which has more than enough game to keep you going all weekend… or a heck of a lot longer if you’re into this sort of thing. Not the most graphically impressive game in the world, but a really great chance to get your interstellar sim on. Give it a whirl.
Lux Deluxe by Sillysoft
Do you love Risk? I remember spending whole weekends with the guys on that timeless boardgame of conquest. Sillysoft has done an incredible remake of that concept, bringing in tons of new features that make the game good enough to have another name altogether. Lux Deluxe gives you a whole new range of maps to take over, plus 11 different computer personalities to pit yourself against. Best part is, you save yourself the trouble of setting up and keeping that messy gameboard — you can just play it on screen with friends through a network.
