Ladies and gentlemen, it’s Flash games in space! Everyone loves Flash games, but how many websites let you play Flash games with your friends, have a customizable avatar, or build your own planet? The Lunaverse lets you do just that: it’s a free Flash games site, but it lets you add friends, challenge their scores, play multiplayer games, and create your own character. It also has some of the cutest art we’ve ever seen. And did we mention you can build your own planet?
The Lunaverse features three categories of games: Sport, Mind, and Action. You can play games by yourself, against a computer opponent, challenge your friends to beat your score, or against another player. Here are our choice picks from each category. (Note: You need to be logged into the Lunaverse to play these!)
The Problem With Prabbits
Category: Action
This is a vertical platformer with one major twist: you race against an opponent to reach the top! Using a split-screen layout, you jump with your arrow key, avoiding obstacles while trying to outwit the enemy. There are power-ups that you pick up and use; our favorite is one that turns your opponent’s screen upside down. This game is NOT EASY (I had a hard time beating Level 2 upside down) so it should give you a lot of challenge.
Ten Pynn Bowling
Category: Sport (and it has multiplayer!)
Pynns are sad, armless creatures that only find happiness when they’re knocked over. Enter Pynn Bowling! With simple clicks of your mouse, you place the bowling ball, aim the angle, select power, and select spin: then let loose and see the cute Pynns giggle when they’re knocked over. You can play against the computer or invite up to three of your Lunaverse friends. Though I suck at bowling in real life, this game is easy and fun.
The Petriflying Protozoa of Dr. DarkMoon
Category: Mind
Your goal is to clear your petri dish of petriflies (little protozoan blobs) before it overflows. Click on a petrifly and lead it to another petrifly of the same color to merge them; watch them get bigger and bigger until they finally disappear. But take note, you can’t bump into another petrifly, otherwise they’ll bounce off. You can pick up power-ups that help (or hinder) your progress. This game requires accuracy as well as speed, so stay sharp.
There are more games than we can mention, so register at www.thelunaverse.com to check them out. The site and all its games are free, but if you want more credits to buy stuff, you can purchase them for a small fee online. See you around the Lunaverse!
