Flash Friday: Movement Puzzle Edition!

Full Article

Nick Kojima

This week we’re reaching into our grab-bag of puzzle games based on understanding of motion and space. They are all deceptively simple, but endlessly fascinating. In fact, the word on the street is that brain puzzlers like these help you to expand your brain and improve concentration. Dunno about that, but give them a try anyway.

Spin the Black Circle
Developer: Monki Studio / BubbleBox.com

A very puzzling game based on some other games of a similar dynamic, but not done nearly as well, Spin the Black Circle challenges you to do just that: Spin the Black Circle. In doing so, you move a number of objects around in the screen, all based on constant gravity. The trick is to use physics to get a ball to go certain places without going in others. Sound confusing? It’s not. Go play and find out. BTW: Bonus points for having some of the best music we’ve ever heard in a flash game. [Play]

Qink
Developer: Collective Mass

This is harder than it looks. Similar to other tile inlay games, your task is to fill an object with color by selecting the region to fill and then selecting the shape that matches it. The trick is that the shape is wrapped around a 3D cube that you can flip in a number of directions to vary the shape. This gets very interesting very quickly. [Play]

Cobacoli
Developer: Tonypa

We’re not going to tell you anything about the actual gameplay of this game, because half of the beauty is discovering it for yourself. This is simply a lesson in great game design, and we hate to spoil it for you. No instructions, minimalist graphics, and simple but extremely deep gameplay. This game is both hypnotic in its beauty and profound in its addictiveness. We dare you to quit after just 3 levels. We double dog dare you. We should mention that this game is sponsored by Casual Gameplay, also known as JayIsGames. It’s always good to see game critics actively supporting innovative games, and we suggest you head on over there for some more great games. If you’re not reading that page weekly, you’re missing out. Bonus points for having music with a cowbell in it. We’re fans of the cowbell. [Play]
