Casual online multiplayer games are all the rage now, and Cafe.com is one of those little wonders that you may have not discovered yet. Cafe.com lets you play Flash games against real opponents for free, and with added features like multiplayer “boosts”, avatars, chat, and leaderboards, you’ll experience your favorite casual games like never before.
As an added bonus, Cafe.com has given us a special treat - 3,000 free CafeCoins for Casual Review readers! While you can play all their games for free, having CafeCoins lets you buy additional boosts (offensive or defensive powerups) that you can’t get anywhere else. Just type in ‘casualreview’ (without the ‘ ‘ marks) in the Invitation Code field when you register. It’s as simple as that - don’t you just love Casual Review?
Here are a few of our favorite Flash games from Cafe.com:
Temple of Mahjong (1 to 6 players)
Believe it or not, this is their most popular game! Up to six players can play in this multiplayer tile-matching game. Your goal is to clear your board of mah jong tiles before the others do. Before each game, you can choose your boosts (such as Shuffle or Undo) and your tileset. While you can’t see your opponents’ boards, you can see their percentage of completion: and it’s quite stressful to see you’re lagging behind the rest. These guys are pros, too!
Wordox (1 to 2 players)
Wordox lets you form words head-to-head with another player on a grid. It’s done away with Scrabble-like complicated scoring and only given you one goal: steal points from your opponent by adding to their own words. It has very simple and cute graphics and it’s easy to pick up and play. The boosts make it more fun too - like Score x2, Time Stop, Bomb, or Scramble.
Together Jigsaw (1 to 6 players)
If you think completing a jigsaw puzzle is hard enough, try finishing your board first before 5 other players. The jigsaw pieces aren’t rotated, just placed, which makes it easier - but your opponents can use boosts like Blur, Shuffle, or Undo to set your progress back. And with either 48, 154, or 247 pieces to put together, this game is definitely a challenge. But strangely enough, it’s fun, and not that frustrating.
Single-player games
If you’re not up to playing against an opponent, you can choose any of their popular single-player games, too. They have a wide variety of games for every taste, such as Arctic Quest, an inlay game where you pick up falling pieces and fit them in a puzzle-like board; or Mozaik, a puzzle game where you rotate blocks to form a particular configuration. Take note that since these were made by a wide variety of developers, the game quality varies a lot as well. And if you find that the Flash versions have too small screens for you, you can download some of them as free PC trials.
If you want more information on Cafe.com, you can view their demo video on YouTube here. As these are online games, we have to warn you about loading times (which can be slow) and also you may not find available opponents for the not-so-popular games. But if you’re looking for a more social way of playing casual games, this is a great option - and it’s free. Have fun playing!
