You know that feeling when you’re really hungry? Really, really hungry? Left-over tupperware back-of-the-fridge hungry? Eets feels your pain. This little guy is a fella after my own heart – always looking for something to eat. And he’s not craving a ripe apple or a handful of carrot sticks, no sir; he’s looking for good old junk food. In Eets, a crazy cartoon puzzle game from Klei Entertainment, you feed Eets all the junk food you can get your hands on to help him collect puzzle shards to reassemble the scattered puzzles. And to accompany this delicious task I’ve got a sweet recipe for Seven-Layer Magic Bars to satisfy your junk food urges.
Your Delightful Game:
Eets is a bit famished. And chances are you wouldn’t like him when he’s famished. He’s one of those guys whose emotions can turn on a dime, or in this case, on a mouthful of marshmallows. For Eets, hunger is emotional. And in this game, you get to toy with his emotions all you want.
Warren the Wise, a giant sensei-like marshmallow, guides you through the levels, introducing you to new food and characters, and helping you figure out how to use them. You begin each level with a few items placed on the screen, and additional ones waiting one a conveyor belt for you to decide where they’ll be most effective. Eets is placed somewhere on the screen and before he starts moving you have time to place marshmallow buds, prankster whales, giant marshmallows, choco clouds and chocolate chip cannons strategically around the screen. Each item can be used to change Eets’ temperament to help him jump, hop, and flip between floating landmasses toward the puzzle piece.
Each item affects Eets differently, so you want to try and get everything in place before you let him wander the course, because each time he fails you have to restart and replace each item. There are the happy yellow marshmallow buds that allow Eets to take small hops between platforms, the green scared buds force him to turn around when he wanders to the edge of a platform, and the red angry buds let him jump farther distances. Prankster whales swallow up Eets or other items and blow them across the screen in either direction, cannons are placed on choco clouds to shoot chocolate chips, which can make Eets happy if he eats them and angry if they hit him. And these are only a few of the crazy encounters Eets has – keep playing and you’ll find a sneezy pig that shoots…something…out of his butt when hit with chocolate chips. Don’t ask.
This game is a little ridiculous, but terribly addicting. There’s only one layout that will work in each stage, and one misplaced angry bud sends Eets jumping into the abyss. But every mistake gets you closer to figuring out the exact pattern the items need to be placed in to assure that Eets is feeling the right emotions at the right time. If you’re stumped you can click on the hint button to reveal the proper placement of one of the items, and if you fail too many times in a row, Warren takes pity on you and shows you the solution.
The music in the game is great – it’s a fun up-beat jazzy rhythm that keeps you bopping. The different scenes are set against backdrops of hot pink trees and mint green mountains, with giant colorful marshmallows looming in the bright blue sky. This fun and silly game will keep you strategizing for hours – probably way more hours than it should – but so what? You’ve got puzzles to solve and a hungry emotionally-charged guy wandering around, you better get cracking!
Your Tasty Dinner:
If your sweet tooth isn’t aching already, it will when you start this recipe. These tasty treats are quick and easy and only have seven simple ingredients.
