You know why I hate casual word games? Because I am tired of spelling the same 3-4 letter words over and over and over again while some timer stresses me out. And finally, someone has a game design that solves that: Word Monaco. Essentially, it’s classic solitaire, but instead of matching cards, you are matching letters to make words. Because you can move the words around and extend them, you get the chance to make some neat combinations and flex your vocabulary in ways other casual games won’t let you. It’s a lot of fun, and you’ll find yourself wanting to play long after the demo is complete.
To be fair, the theme of the game is bland at best, and you’ll turn off the horrible French accordion music within 30 seconds. I mean, come on, who really likes accordions? But that’s all essentially a non-issue because you are just there for the word-game. It could be big black screen with the cards and letters and the game would still be plenty of fun. More importantly, there are no other games with the same mechanic in a whole slew of other word games, so it’s a refreshing change for word game lovers. If you are into word games at all, this is one you should definitely check out.
