Who We Are - What We Do

Casual Review has 4 simple rules:

We only review games we like.
Since most of us have experience making games, we have a lot of respect for game developers. Making even a poor game is a lot of work, and we just don’t have it in us to trash someone’s games. Instead, we have decided we will respect developers by doing what our mothers always told us, and not saying anything at all unless we have something nice to say. To that end, we only review games that we actually recommend you download and play. That way, you’re not wasting your time reading a review of a game you’ll never download, and we’re not trash talking products people tried hard to make. Everyone wins, and our mothers are proud.

We are honest in our reviews.
That being said, once we decide we like a game, we will give an honest appraisal of the product, and will tell you what we liked or didn’t like about it. We’re hoping that this lets our users know what may irritate them in a game before they waste time downloading it, and also gives casual game developers some feedback for improving their games. We’re never mean, but we’re always honest.

We don’t waste your time.
We know you can download and play the demos of these games just as easily as we can. We see no point in a 30 minute synopsis of a game you can be playing yourself in 3 minutes. We just want to get you enough information for you to decide whether you want to check it out or not – and generally, we think you will. There's a lot of games out there, so read less, play more!

We’ll find our users something new.
You can go to the big portals and see the top 10 games yourself. You don’t need us for that. Sure, we’ll review the big games and keep you on top of the best new stuff out there, but we’ll also go back in the back catalogues and find forgotten gems you may not have found yourself. We’ll go to the little sites, and the indie developers who are doing some really innovative things, and make sure we get you the best games from that scene as well. We’ll make sure that you get the scoop on the big blockbusters, but you'll also get to see some of the games the big portals don’t want you to see as well.

Staff

Nick Kojima
Writer/Reviewer
A man of mystery and intrigue, Nick hails from an ancient tribe of Japanese samurai. He dreams of someday finding the best game ever on the internet though his highly disciplined diet of casual games, Glenlivet scotch, funyuns, and reruns of Deadwood.
Cameron Sorden
Writer/Reviewer
Hailing from the frozen wastes of the American midwest, Cameron uses casual games and hard liquor to keep him warm on the cold nights. As our Editor in Chief, he's often to be found digging through a big pile of reviews and mumbling softly to himself. We figure it's part of his management strategy.
Poh Tun Kai
Senior Editor
In the past, Kai has worked as a technology writer, a two-fisted editor, and a wild-eyed game designer. But then he was digitized by an experimental laser and transformed into living code for the www.casualreview.com domain, where he now reviews casual games and fights the Master Control Program on a daily basis.
Charlotte Zheng
Writer/Reviewer
From foggy San Francisco, Charlotte is a self-described queen of all things casual. The newest addition to the team, Charlotte hopes to bring spunk, personality, and... well, even more spunk to the Casual Review team. Goodness knows, we needed more spunk.
Mayling Tan
Writer/Reviewer
From the South Eastern corner of the globe, Mayling was discovered huddled in a corner of a room, chugging down quarts of coffee and twitching from post-rhythm games withdrawal. As rehab for her addiction, she plays casual games and feverishly churns out articles for the Casual Review team.
Casual Review's Sponsor
Sugardaddy/General Advisor
The Boss. The Man. The Big Cheese. The Greasy McNugget. The guy who pays for bandwidth and web developers. Call him what you will - he pays the bills, plays Chuzzle like a thing possessed, and has a thing for Princess Maker games. We try not to ask him about it too much. It makes us uncomfortable.
Sara Schweid
Writer/Reviewer
Another midwesterner, Sara is currently finishing a degree in Journalism and Political Science. Whenever she can, she spends her time playing puzzle games, solving crossword puzzles, and writing articles for us. Like many accomplished, intelligent women, she has only one weakness... cute and fuzzy game characters.
Guest Writer
We like to bring in guest writers from time to time, because mixing things up with a little fresh blood is always exciting! Keep an eye out for these, and let us know if you like the writing style. Who knows when a guest writer might become a permanent fixture here?
Xuanming Zhou
Writer/Reviewer
Xuanming recently made the deans list in the computer game development program at Nanyang Technological University. We would tell you how proud we were of his hard work and dedication, if we didn't worry that this ws just more proof of what we already knew: he is an enormous, enormous geek. He doesn't even try to hide it.
Marcus Albers
Writer/Reviewer
Born in the frigid tundra of Minnesota, Marcus learned at a young age it was better to stay inside and play games than freeze outside. While he has since found the wonders of things like a wife and a job, he still likes to stay inside where it's warm and curl up with a good casual game. Maybe someday he'll get paid for it!
