Space Renegades: The Series
Posted by Cameron Sorden on November 20th, 2007 in Reviews

The first game out there from United Minds Games, Space Renegades: The Series, is a nice homage to the days of classic arcade shooters and 16-bit graphics. You take the role of one of two space pilots and hop into your ship for some action that’s one part Galaga and one part Space Invaders. It’s [...]

Stones of Khufu
Posted by Andy Osthoff on November 19th, 2007 in Reviews

Have you ever played a game that seemed too simple to challenge you, and then the complexity unfolds and you suddenly realize that you’re hanging on for dear life? Stones of Khufu is just such a game, and it’s as easy or hard as you want to make it. Whether that’s a good thing is [...]

Slingo Quest
Posted by Cameron Sorden on November 18th, 2007 in Reviews

You’ve probably played Bingo before, right? It’s a great time! You sit and track scores on your card, trying to spell out bingo, and you win cool prizes. Except… it takes so long. You’ve probably also tried a slot machine at some point. Thrilling! Exciting! But over so quickly… What if somebody could combine these [...]

Jewels of Cleopatra

So. You’ve played all the adventure games. You’ve played all the match three games. You’ve seen all there is to see and every time you pick up a new casual game you think, “Oh, this is just like [generic game x]”. Well dust off your mouse and buckle up, because Boomzap’s new game “Jewels of [...]

Oasis
Posted by Nick Kojima on November 16th, 2007 in Reviews

It’s a strategy game you can play in 10 minutes, which is exactly what the world needed. Oasis is to the big strategy games like Civilization what Disneyland is to Europe. All the most important parts are there, but they have been shrunk down to something that even a child can understand.

Four Houses
Posted by Nick Kojima on November 15th, 2007 in Reviews

Beep Industries has put out another truly original and beautiful little game. We don’t know what they are doing in that company to remain so innovative, but we wish they’d do a lot more of it, because they’re making some really great little games.

Tile Quest

Here’s a game that displays that odd design sensibility: “I’ve got this big pile of fairies lying around – I think I’ll just put them all over this game!” So if you like that, this is your kind of game. What’s the story? The story is you’re filling shapes in. Because stuff is better filled [...]

Zodiac Tower
Posted by Nick Kojima on November 13th, 2007 in Reviews

Innovation is scarce in the casual game market these days, and when it does appear, as often as not it is in the form of a new blending of two or more known game types. This is certainly the case with Enkord’s Zodiac Tower, a sort of mix between a classic match-3 dynamic and a [...]

Star Defender 3
Posted by Andy Osthoff on November 12th, 2007 in Reviews

Usually, I would say there are more than enough games that involve spaceships, lasers, and killer gobs of floating goo. Every time I see a little space ship that only moves in two directions, I can only expect so much. To my pleasant surprise, Star Defender 3 exceeded those expectations and not only held my [...]

Chuzzle Deluxe
Posted by Cameron Sorden on November 11th, 2007 in Reviews

Had I not seen it with my own eyes, I would never have guessed that such cuteness as is found in the mysterious “chuzzle” was possible. They are but tiny colored balls of fur with eyes that quiver, squeak, sneeze, and have no purpose other than to poof into oblivion when their appointed time comes. [...]
