Fizzball
Posted by Nick Kojima on November 30th, 2007 in Reviews

You know, every time I talk to developers and reviewers about video games, I hear the same old story: “Innovation is dead in games.” These people haven’t been looking at the top indie casual games lately. Little gems like Fizzball, Wik, and Eets come out with shocking regularity. They get a lot of hype on [...]

Ancient Mosaic
Posted by Nick Kojima on November 29th, 2007 in Reviews

You know what I like about casual games? You can sometimes play a game and know that someone really loved this game, and really put their heart into it. And there is something about some of the games from Eastern Europe that really give you feeling – and this is definitely one of those.

Mr. Robot
Posted by Cameron Sorden on November 28th, 2007 in Reviews

I’ve often wished that more casual developers would take the time and effort to put out a good, well-written, role-playing game. It’s a genre which doesn’t get nearly enough attention in the casual market, probably due in no small part to the enormous amount of time it takes to pen and program a full length [...]

Risk II
Posted by Cameron Sorden on November 27th, 2007 in Reviews

Miss those marathon games of Risk from your childhood? Have fond memories of “accidentally” knocking the board over once Dad got control of Asia and Europe? Risk II has all the fun you remember with some sweet new additions.
Learning to play is simple even if you’ve never played Risk before. You divide up all the [...]

Ultimate Duck Hunting
Posted by Cameron Sorden on November 26th, 2007 in Reviews

If you’ve ever spent some time huddled in a freezing cold duck stand in the middle of nowhere at 6AM being very quiet while someone makes duck calls near you, you’ll appreciate exactly why duck hunting makes such a good videogame (the answer is that you can stay inside and drink hot chocolate while you [...]

Bookworm Adventures Deluxe
Posted by Nick Kojima on November 25th, 2007 in Reviews

Two numbers keep popping up when people talk about Bookworm Adventures Deluxe: $30 to buy the game and $700,000 to make the game. Is it worth either? Depends on who you ask. In our case, we give a cautious yes, though we’re sure we don’t like the trend of higher budgets and higher price points [...]

Flower Shop: Big City Break
Posted by Nick Kojima on November 24th, 2007 in Reviews

We really like this game. We want to get that right out in the open at the very beginning of the review, because this review is full of criticisms, and may fool you into thinking we don’t. That’s just because the overwhelming feeling we took away from the game is that with just a few [...]

Myth Match
Posted by Nick Kojima on November 23rd, 2007 in Reviews

It has begun. For years the doom mongers have cried “the time of the independent game developer is gone! Soon all games will be exclusively distributed by portals!” Well, it looks like the world has taken a big step in that direction with the new Myth Match, developed exclusively for Yahoo! Games by Mumbo Jumbo, [...]

Zodiac
Posted by Nick Kojima on November 22nd, 2007 in Reviews

Every now and then when I play a new game, I turn to my roommate after 30 seconds and say “Hey, check this out!” This is always a good sign, because it means I am seeing something for the first time. And to be honest, as a casual game reviewer that doesn’t happen nearly as [...]

Luxor 2
Posted by Nick Kojima on November 21st, 2007 in Reviews

With all of the hype, people can forget that Luxor, when it originally came out, was considered just a clone of Zuma. However, that was never entirely true. Luxor did use a very similar base mechanic to Zuma, but it added the cool factor of having an Arkanoid-style piece along the bottom that could collect [...]
