Dream Vacation Solitaire
Posted by Nick Kojima on October 31st, 2007 in Reviews

Well, yes, it’s solitaire. No real surprises there. And yes, you’re on a vacation, and if you always wanted to cruise the world on a luxury yacht, I guess that’s kinda dreamy. And though Dream Vacation Solitaire tries like many solitaire games to spice it up through the liberal application of game variants like yin-yang, [...]

Platypus
Posted by Cameron Sorden on October 31st, 2007 in Reviews

Plat‧y‧pus: 1. noun. A semiaquatic egg-laying mammal of Australia and Tasmania, having a broad flat tail, webbed feet, and a snout resembling a duck’s bill. 2. noun. An original, fantastic-looking, and incredibly difficult side-scrolling shooter by Retro64 having nothing to do with Platypuses.

Chameleon Gems
Posted by Nick Kojima on October 29th, 2007 in Reviews

OK, there are a lot of games out there whre you spit things at encroaching waves or chains of things. That’s leading a lot of people to decry casual games as a bunch of clones, and to some degree there is truth to that. But actually, some of these “clones” are better than others, and [...]

The world has no shortage of brick-busting paddle games. But, truth be told, it does actually have a shortage really good ones, and Temple of Bricks goes some way to fixing that problem.

Jig Art Quest
Posted by Nick Kojima on October 27th, 2007 in Reviews

Yes, jigsaw puzzles are for old ladies. I know the cliché too. But when you think that you have been spending a lot of time lately matching gems, baking virtual cakes, and shooting colored balls at other colored balls, you may actually find that going old school with a real live puzzle game with real [...]

Water Bugs
Posted by Cameron Sorden on October 27th, 2007 in Reviews

You have to suspect that the guys at Retro64 had some terrible encounter with insects as children. Maybe they were bitten, stung, swarmed, afflicted, or just generally panicked by the little guys, because it seems like every other game that they make casts our little six-legged friends as the villains.
Whether or not bugs were actually [...]

Paradise Pet Salon
Posted by Mayling Tan on October 26th, 2007 in Reviews

I do have to start this review with a disclaimer. I love animals, and having a Pet Saloon game for pet lovers is like feeding premium bananas to a crazed monkey. I’ve seen a fair share of management games the past few weeks, but somehow Paradise Pet Salon was the jewel that really stood out [...]

Sweetopia
Posted by Nick Kojima on October 26th, 2007 in Reviews

The common wisdom on casual games is that they should be easy, slow, and somewhat… sedate. Someone forgot to give Pi Eye Games the memo. Another entry in the “ball shooter” genre, this one takes a strong twist for the more frantic and visually stimulating. It is to Zuma what “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas” [...]
