Solitaire Pop
Posted by Poh Tun Kai on September 30th, 2007 in Reviews

Playfirst presents us with another solitaire-based puzzle game, which interestingly has a theme of archaeological expeditions throughout the ancient world. It’s a bit of a stretch to say that clearing levels of tiles based on playing cards has anything to do with real archaeology, but as is usually the case, the storyline is just an [...]

Ancient Tripeaks
Posted by Nick Kojima on September 30th, 2007 in Reviews

The basic message: This is the other good tripeaks game. If you are into tripeaks, you probably already own it. If you like solitaire, you should probably check it out.

Agatha Christie: Death On The Nile
Posted by Poh Tun Kai on September 29th, 2007 in Reviews

Not every casual game needs to have a great storyline backing it up, but this one is all the better for it. This game is an adaptation of Agatha Christie’s longest novel, Death On The Nile, and its plot is revealed in a series of still cut-scenes depicting the characters as unmoving “talking heads” while [...]

Clayside
Posted by Cameron Sorden on September 28th, 2007 in Reviews

Meta-games are all the rage these days. Apparently, simple games just aren’t good enough for casual gamers anymore. Developers think you want extra objectives and fancy complex systems on top of your beloved puzzles. And that’s a good thing. Because it’s always great to see new twists on old games hit the market. Enkord is [...]

Runes of Avalon
Posted by Nick Kojima on September 27th, 2007 in Reviews

Sometimes games come out of nowhere and bowl you over with their beauty, originality, and general coolness. And while this game has the beauty, originality, and coolness down, it certainly didn’t come out of nowhere for those of us involved in the indie game scene. We have been given weekly, nay, daily updates on the [...]

Ancient Empires Lux
Posted by Nick Kojima on September 26th, 2007 in Reviews

Lux is one of those things that indie developers like to talk about. Sillysoft has built an entire company on this franchise (thought they have a few other fun games), and in doing so, they have avoided using the big portals, doing ingame advertising, making flash versions, using publishers, or doing just about everything else [...]

Peggle Deluxe
Posted by Cameron Sorden on September 25th, 2007 in Reviews

You’ve probably seen a pachinko machine before. You know them. They’re those crazy games where a ball drops onto a series of pegs and bounces down into one of several holes. Where will it land? That’s the fun! You never know. Well, Peggle is what Pachinko would be if it were a zany after-school special [...]

Babel Deluxe
Posted by Nick Kojima on September 25th, 2007 in Reviews

Were not really huge fans of word games in general – they tend to be cheap knockoffs of wordsearch or boggle, and have little else to recommend them over the crossword in the paper. But every now and then someone comes up with something new in the space, and in the case of Babel, they [...]

Merry Motors

I remember when glorified math calculation games passed for edutainment, and you were lucky if there was any game at all in your “educational games.” Well, educational entertainment has come a long way since those days, and if your regular favorite games are too complex for your children or you don’t want them spending lots [...]

Battle Castles
Posted by Guest Writer on September 23rd, 2007 in Reviews

Shoot cannons at an invading armada of ships, destroy incoming cannonballs and raiders, keep your castle walls from falling… what’s not to like? And you do all of this by simply clicking your mouse. For having such simple gameplay, Battle Castles is surprisingly fun.
