Profitville

There’s just something aesthetically pleasing about dollar signs. In our consumerist society, we’re taught from young about the importance of money. That’s why so it seems only natural to use stacks of coins and the sounds of cash registers as easily recognizable ways of keeping score in games. This is a fact that hasn’t escaped [...]

Ice Cream Tycoon
Posted by Mayling Tan on May 29th, 2007 in Reviews

While many developers normally take the safe route by churning out games with tried and tested formulas, Kozmo Games took a bold step by putting a whole new twist to service related games. The initial impression I got from the name Ice Cream Tycoon itself was that it would be another service game.

Arctic Quest 2
Posted by Mayling Tan on May 28th, 2007 in Reviews

Alawar Games accumulated quite a following through the success of their first installment in the Arctic Quest series. It was easy to see why – simple, yet compelling gameplay that was easy enough for a novice yet challenging enough for a seasoned gamer to pick up. They’re back with the second installment of their game, [...]

Kungfu Master
Posted by Mayling Tan on May 26th, 2007 in Reviews

I cannot help but feel that the developers for Kungfu Master aren’t taking themselves seriously in this one. If the name of the game itself is anything to go by, a few minutes into the game gave me flashback of the movie Kung Pow. However, don’t let this throw you off, because underneath its rather [...]

Recyclorama
Posted by Mayling Tan on May 25th, 2007 in Reviews

It’s encouraging to see that the game developers like Ohana Games are doing their bit by taking a more educational and socially responsible role in producing a fun game on recycling. The concept itself may be a bit strange, but the gameplay is decent enough to make you forget that you’re actually performing something as [...]

Snapshot Adventures
Posted by Mayling Tan on May 24th, 2007 in Reviews

Bird watching is hardly a common hobby if, like me, you live here in the tropics. It’s rather hard to camp out in the sweltering heat waiting for just the right bird to come along. To top it off, in the midst of the humidity are hordes of lecherous mosquitoes feasting on your body. Therefore, [...]

Sonoro TV
Posted by Poh Tun Kai on May 23rd, 2007 in Reviews

Not every indie game is a unique snowflake of game design. Many developers choose to take the safe route and create casual games similar to what’s already on the market. Devilish Games is obviously not interested in following the crowd, and its new platform action game, Sonoro TV, really shows this independent attitude.

Devilish Games Interview
Posted by Poh Tun Kai on May 23rd, 2007 in Features

It’s amazing how a game like Sonoro TV can be so devilishly fun. Sonoro TV is the latest creation of Spanish studio Devilish Games, and we took time to speak to David Ferriz, director and founder of the studio, to find out what makes his games tick, hop and bounce. Pictured below, from left to [...]

Inca Ball
Posted by Poh Tun Kai on May 20th, 2007 in Reviews

Inca Ball follows in the footsteps of the ball-shooter genre pioneered by Luxor, with trains of colored spheres rushing down twisty tracks while you try to shoot the right colors to create matched sets of 3 or more balls. It’s a tried and true formula that Sahmon Games doesn’t deviate far from. What sets this [...]

Virtual Villagers - The Lost Children
Posted by Poh Tun Kai on May 18th, 2007 in Reviews

There are two kinds of people in the world: People who keep pets, and people who don’t. And then, somewhere in between the petted and the petless, we have the phenomenon of virtual pets – objects of affection that do away with the fuss and mess of real pets. From the Tamagochi to the Sims, [...]
